England Women Inspire in Canterbury

Monday 17th October 2022

On Wednesday 21st September, The Spitfire Ground once again hosted the England Women, as they played out the second of a three match Royal London ODI series against India.

The Indian Women batted first, putting on an impressive score of 355/5 from fifty overs. Harmanpreet Kaur was the star of the game, with a magnificent 143 off 111 balls not out. England Women could only muster 245 in reply, with their last wicket tumbling in the 45th over and declaring India the winners.

It was a fantastic spectacle for Kent Cricket and women’s sport, with a crowd of 2,000 spectators being inspired by top class international women’s cricket. The Community Team at Kent Cricket capitalised superbly on the event, with an array of match activation which ran alongside the game.

Multiple schools were present, whose students could participate in various catching drills and even measure the speed of their throw! Ashford School (National Indoor Champions) and Queenborough Primary, were given the opportunity to be the Guard of Honour for the event, waving their flags as the players ran onto the field. Lastly, the Kent Under 11 Girls’ Squads were gifted their caps by Kent and England’s Alice Davidson-Richards in the match interval, to continue the annual inspiring tradition.

Next year, The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence will again host the final clash of a three-match One Day International (ODI) series between England Women & Sri Lanka Women on Tuesday 19 September 2023. With a 12:30 start, fans of both sides will enjoy a floodlit encounter in what could be a series decider between the two teams.
