FREE Primary Schools Cricket and PE CPD Event

Kent Cricket is delighted to offer a FREE Cricket and PE CPD Day for Primary school staff through our partnership with Chance to Shine.

On the Friday 28th April we invite primary school teachers, TA’s, school sports coaches and SGO’s to attend the day, completely free.

The formal CPD course has been developed by Chance to Shine and the Youth Sports Trust, with the PE National Curriculum at its heart and will be delivered by qualified tutors from our Coach Development Team and our Community Coaches that work in schools throughout the county.
Aimed at developing your confidence and ability to deliver fun, active and purposeful cricket lessons but with a variety of skills that can be utilized throughout your PE curriculum.

Course Details

Date- Friday 28th April
Time- 9am-3pm
Location- The Spitfire Ground St Lawrence, Old Dover Road, Canterbury CT1 3NZ.

Refreshments will be included during the day but attendees should bring their own lunch.

The course will be active, participants should arrive dressed in sports attire and comfortable trainers.

All participants will be awarded a certificate for attending the course.

Course outcomes include;

  • To develop knowledge of the Chance to Shine (CTS) Programme and resources and how they can support schools to deliver National Curriculum PE.
  • To explain the importance of the Fundamental Movement Skills and use within lessons.
  • To be able to apply the SMILES model to deliver High Quality PE.
  • To implement the STEP framework to ensure ALL children are supported and/or challenged in PE.
  • To be able to facilitate the development of children’s skills including:
    • Throwing
    • Catching
    • Retrieving
    • Tracking a moving ball
    • Striking
    • Bowling
    • Game tactics and awareness
  • To use effective questioning to support learning.
  • To develop the knowledge of how to teach basic Cricket skills.
  • Use the Chance to Shine programme to develop children’s life skills in PE and across the primary curriculum.
  • To explore the ‘Whole – Part – Whole’ pedagogical approach in the delivery of a High-Quality lesson.
  • To become familiar with Dynamos Cricket: Rules, Scoring and Inter-School Competitions.
  • To analyse the strategies and tactics required to play Countdown Pairs.
  • To develop leadership opportunities for children.
