FREE Schools Cricket and PE CPD Events 2024

Wednesday 6th March 2024

Building on a successful course in 2023, Kent Cricket is delighted to offer a FREE Cricket and PE CPD Day for both Primary and Secondary school staff, through our partnership with Chance to Shine and ECB. Both courses are aimed at giving you the knowledge and confidence to deliver cricket within your school.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS CPD COURSE

The formal CPD course has been developed by Chance to Shine and the Youth Sports Trust, with the PE National Curriculum at its heart and delivered by qualified tutors from our Coach Development and Community Coaches, who deliver to primary classes year-round.

The session is aimed at developing your confidence and ability to deliver fun, active and purposeful cricket lessons, but with a variety of skills that can be utilised throughout your PE curriculum.

Course Details

  • 📅 Date: Thursday 18th April.
  • ⌚ Time: 10:00 – 15:30.
  • 📍 Location: Cascades Leisure Centre, Gravesend, DA12 4LG.
  • 👐 Open to: Teachers, Teaching Assistants, HLTAs, Sports Coaches and School Games Organisers.
  • 🎟 Cost: Free.

Refreshments will be included during the day, but attendees should bring their own lunch. The course will be active, so participants should arrive dressed in sports attire and comfortable trainers. All participants will be awarded a certificate for attending the course.

Course outcomes;

  • Develop the knowledge of how to teach basic cricket skills.
  • Explore throwing, catching, retrieving, tracking a moving ball, striking, bowling, game tactics and awareness.
  • Knowledge of the Chance to Shine (CTS) Programme for Key Stages 1 and 2.
  • Consider the importance of the Fundamental Movement Skills.
  • To be able to apply the SMILES model to deliver High Quality PE.
  • To implement the STEP framework to ensure all children are supported and/or challenged in PE.
  • To be able to facilitate the development of children’s skills:
  • Become familiar with Dynamos Cricket
    • Rules, Scoring and Inter-School Competitions.
    • Analyse the strategies and tactics required to play Countdown Pairs.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS CPD COURSE

  • 📅 Date: Friday 26th April.
  • ⌚ Time: 11:30 – 15:30.
  • 📍 Location: Erith Leisure Centre, Bexley, DA8 3AT.
  • 👐 Open to: Teachers, Teaching Assistants, HLTAs, Sports Coaches and School Games Organisers.
  • 🎟 Cost: Free.

Refreshments will be included during the day, but attendees should bring their own lunch. The course will be active, so participants should arrive dressed in sports attire and comfortable trainers.

Course outcomes;

  • To develop knowledge of the Chance to Shine (CTS) resources and how they can support schools to deliver National Curriculum PE
  • To look at iCoachCricket platform and resources with the free access option to help with teaching
  • Be shown various methods of how to introduce softball cricket into the secondary environment
  • Knowledge and application of the fundamental skill principles in cricket (Batting, Bowling, Fielding)
  • To be able to facilitate the development of student’s skills including (throwing, catching, retrieving, tracking a moving ball, striking, bowling, game tactics and awareness)
  • To become familiar with the Kent Cricket Secondary School Competition Framework, Rules, Formats and Managing Gameplay
  • Further additions to the course are based on feedback when schools enter, as to their required content
