Kent Cricket Partners with LDC Care for Disability Cricket Event

Thursday 7th September 2023

Kent Cricket has recently partnered with LDC Care to run a Disability Cricket Event at East Langdon Cricket Club in Dover.

LDC Care provide care for adults with learning disabilities in residential care homes or in a supported living environment in the East Kent area. Close to thirty of their service users attended the event at the cricket club on Friday 1st September, which was supported by the Kent Cricket Community Trust (KCCT) and Community Team.

The weather held out to allow for tower toppling , measuring throwing speed, crazy net catches, rapid fire batting and time spent on the popular inflatables. It was an action packed event that introduced many to cricket for the first time, in it’s many inclusive forms. Stuart Butler-Gallie, Trustee of the Kent Community Cricket Trust commented,

“The Kent Cricket Community Trust recognise that sport is for everyone and that everyone is unique. Today’s fantastic cricket event for service users and staff from East Kent based LDC Care at East Langdon Cricket Club near Dover, was another great example of how cricket can, and should, be inclusive for all. LDC Care service users, who strive for independent living despite challenging behaviours and mental health problems, together with their dedicated staff partners, enjoyed a great day of cricket activities and games in a safe and inclusive environment. A big thank you to Lara Bywater, MD of LDC Care for introducing KCCT to her amazing team and to Lee Crone, captain of East Langdon CC, for providing the club’s facilities to deliver such an impactful event”

With the links between the cricket club and nearby LDC Care Centre now strengthened, the aim is for these cricketing opportunities to continue at the club, meaning regular inclusive cricket activity is available to the willing participants. A huge thank you to all involved in getting this project off the ground, we hope it can be a positive case study of what can be achieved elsewhere in the county.
