Bowler Simon Cook (pictured) showed his all-round capabilities with an unbeaten 60 on the opening day of Kent“s final LV County Championship match of the season away at Gloucestershire.

The former Middlesex seam-bowler hit ten fours and two sixes in his 39-ball innings but Kent could only manage 264 after being put into bat by Gloucestershire skipper Alex Gidman at Bristol. Captain Rob Key hit 50, Alex Blake 47 and Geraint Jones 44 but Kent still only yielded two batting bonus points.

New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin was the pick of the Gloucestershire attack. He returned figures of 5-30 with former England seamer Jon Lewis taking four wickets.

Bad light then forced the players off with Gloucestershire 21 for no wicket in their first-innings.
