OPENER Joe Denly (pictured) scored his first LV County Championship century of the season as Kent’s trip to Leicestershire ended in an inevitable rain-affected draw at Grace Road.
The 22-year-old hit an unbeaten 116, sharing a second-wicket stand of 181 with wicketkeeper Geraint Jones, who hit an impressive 87.
Earlier, the home side moved on from their overnight score of 35 for six to declare at 403 for nine, with Tom New unbeaten on 85. It was the first time Paul Nixon’s side had achieved maximum batting points this season. Seamer Simon Cook, getting a rare Championship outing, was the pick of the Kent attack – returning figures of five for 78.
The game was always destined for a draw after the opening two days were lost to rain.
