KENT bowler Phil Edwards (pictured) returned figures of five for 71 as the second team enjoyed the better of the play on the opening day of their Championship match with Sussex at Canterbury. Edwards, who was the pick of the attack, was well supported by Warren Lee who took three for 50 as Sussex were dismissed for 210 in their first innings.

In reply, Kent reached 96 for four at stumps with Andy Smith making 44.
