Hugh Bernard takes three Australia U19 wickets at Loughborough

Kent's teen seamer Hugh Bernard took 3-9 in eight fine overs against Australia Under 19s for an invitational XI at Loughborough as Englan began their build-up for the junior Ashes series.

Kent's Hugh Bernard bowled three maidens in his 48-ball spell, helping to reduce the tourists to 35 for five in the evening sunshine.

Essex youngster Callum Taylor hit 63 from 55 balls with 10 fours and two sixes.and 17-year-old Northamptonshire all-rounder Saif Zaib reached a 112-ball century when he launched his fourth six with power that belied the left-hander’s slight build.

Both Zaib and Taylor are in the 16-man England U19 squad for the Test against Australia alongside Kent wicketkeeper Ryan Davies.

Elsewhere at Loughborough, Davies scored 12 off 17 balls batting at six for England Under-19s against a Unicorns side including ex-England seamer Graham Onions.
