Hunn takes 4 wickets in 2nd XI Trophy

Paceman Matt Hunn took four wickets as Kent lost a high-scoring Second XI Trophy match against Somerset at Taunton Vale.

Hunn dismissed former England Test batsman Marcus Trescothick for 19 to reduce the hosts to 51-2 before a familiar face hit back.

Kent Cricket Academy graduate Ryan Davies, who joined Somerset in 2016, hit eight fours and three sixes to reach 93 before Adam Riley trapped him LBW.

The middle and lower order accelerated to post 323 for eight with wickets for Zak Crawley, Grant Stewart and Jasdev Bassan.

In reply, Zak Crawley (23) and Joe Weatherley (50) put on 71 in 16.1 overs but scoreboard pressure began to tell as the required run rate quickly reached double figures.

Adam Ball scored a fluent 62 off 59 balls and Kai Appleby smashed 40 off 20 before England Under-19 duo Dom Bess and Ben Green ended the contest.

Off-spinner Dom Bess picked up 5/63 and seamer Green grabbed two late wickets to seal a 38-run win.

The two sides meet again on Tuesday (16 May) for a three-day Championship match.
