James Tredwell gives his thoughts on featuring in the first Test

Tuesday 9th March 2010

Kent“s newest England international, James Tredwell (pictured), gives his thoughts to the website from his hotel room in Bangladesh.

The 28 year-old spin bowler recently made his ODI debut in England“s series win over Bangladesh. The off-spin bowler is now hoping to make his Test bow later this week.

Read his personal thoughts below…

To feature in the warm up game against Bangladesh A was very pleasing. I was delighted to get my chance and hope that my good performance will help me get a go in the first Test. Taking six wickets, in the first innings of that game, has given me huge confidence and certainly put my face out there for selection in the opening Test, which starts on Friday.

This is obviously a great boost to me. If I am fortunate enough to get selected we will play that first Test on the same ground so I already know it very well. On this note I like to think I have given myself a very good chance of getting the nod, but I guess we’ll have to see what happens next.

The pitches here do seem to take spin, as you would probably expect. Double spin is, I would imagine, a real possibility. If that does happen then I should play and this would make it an even more special one for me; getting my first caps in both forms of the game.

We have two more days training before then so I will be doing all I can to impress as I definitely don’t want to take anything for granted, but also want to be in the best shape to do well if I do get selected.

Bangladesh is certainly an interesting place. We have come across many sights and smells along the way but, in general, I have been pleasantly surprised by the country. The people here are extremely friendly. The facilities we are using are basic but they are adequate. The hotel in Dhaka was very good. However, some people may have different views. Maybe I will always look at Bangladesh through rose tinted glasses due to the opportunities it has given me.

Please keep supporting Kent cricket and back me if I play in the first Test!
