Cox makes England Lions debut

Kent ‘keeper-batter Jordan Cox has today made his England Lions’ ODI debut against Sri Lanka A in Colombo. The Lions won by four-wickets, with Cox scoring 46 off 48-balls, including three fours and one six.

In the field, but without the gloves, he took two catches to dismiss full internationals Avishka Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrama, who scored 74. Cox also ran out Milan Rathnayake.

Cox was presented his cap by Kent’s Head of Talent Pathway, Min Patel, who is also on the coaching staff for England Lions.

The 22-year-old, who won the second T20 title of his career with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape franchise in South Africa’s new domestic T20 tournament earlier this week, was one of five debutants in today’s match.

He received his cap alongside Tom Prest (Hampshire), Tom Hartley (Lancashire), Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire) and James Rew (Somerset).

The white-ball squad are scheduled to play a further two ODIs against Sri Lanka A in Colombo, on 18 February and 21 February.
