Men’s First Team

Name, age and role:

Simon Cook, 35, bowler

What brought you to Kent?

Seven years ago I had a conversation on the boundary edge playing for Middlesex 2s at Chesterfield with Paul Farbrace and Imade the move down to Kent in 2005.

Who is the one to watch?

It’s hard to pick just one. Matt Coles and the two Sams – Billings and Northeast are doing well – and Daniel Bell-Drummond is a real prospect too. I think DBD would have maybe forced his way into the side this year had he not been going to the Under-19 World Cup.

Which is your favourite cricket groundin England?

Lord’s. I played there for eight years with Middlesex and the lunches are out this world – it’s like a five-star restaurant in there.

If you could play cricket anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Australia. They have good weather, it’s a nice relaxed lifestyle and the wickets bounce a bit.

Who is the last player to buy a round?

Me!

Who is the worst dressed?

I’ll have to say me again!

Who is the messiest in the dressing room?

Sam Northeast

Who is the worst room-mate?

I’ve been lucky. In the past at Middlesex it would have to be Chris Peploe as he’s a terrible snorer.

Who is the greatest cricketer you have ever seen?

It has to go down as one of Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar and Jacques Kallis.

Who is the greatest that ever lived?

Stats-wise you would have to say Kallis but I’ll go for Don Bradman.

If you could create the perfect player, whose facets wouldthey have?

I’d have Tendulkar’s runs, Muralitharan’s off-spin, he’d field like Jonty Rhodes and have the mentality of MS Dhoni.
