Kent Cricket sign Armed Forces covenant

Kent Cricket today publicly demonstrated its commitment to the UK’s military services by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.

Club officials welcomed military representatives for a signing in the lunch interval on the opening day of Kent’s match against West Indies during the 166th Canterbury Cricket Week.

With it comes a commitment to honour the Armed Forces and the support the Armed Forces Community and promises to treat those who serve, or who have served, and their families, fairly.

Kent Cricket is committed to supporting members of the Armed Forces and has ex-forces personnel working at the Club.

Added to this is a rich shared history with the forces – particularly the forebear regiments of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, which have supported every Canterbury Week since the very first festival in 1842.

The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment freefall parachute display team joined in the occasion landing at the ground just before play recommenced after lunch.

Kent Cricket CEO Jamie Clifford signed on behalf of the Club and said: “It is a honour for the Club to have been awarded the Bronze Award on sining the covenant and the Club is delighted to be able to show commitment to this excellent initiative.  We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Armed Forces in the coming years.”

The South East Regional Employer Engagement Director for the Ministry of Defence, Captain Jonathan Darrington-Slegg, said: Signing the Armed Forces Covenant has provided an opportunity to establish a solid relationship between Kent County Cricket Club and the Armed Forces Community, we look forward to many years of continued support.”
