Kent Cricket’s Board welcomes ECB’s response to ICEC Report

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has today published details of the steps that will be taken to make cricket a more inclusive sport, following the recent publication of the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) report.

This detailed and considered response follows a three-month period of consultation since the report’s publication in June. Kent Cricket has engaged fully with the ECB in the game-wide discussions on how best to implement the findings.

Kent Cricket’s Board members have welcomed the response, and endorsed the wide-ranging commitments to accelerating and bolstering the work that is already underway across the cricketing network.

Kent Cricket’s Chair, Simon Philip, said: “The publication of the ICEC report was a pivotal moment for the sport, which made clear that transformation is needed across the game.

“Cricket is a game for everyone – there is no place for discrimination, prejudice, or racism, in any form. Collectively, we must work together to ensure that lessons are learnt, and that more actions are taken to break down barriers and pave the way for a more inclusive sport.

“Kent Cricket will work with the ECB to achieve the ambitions outlined for the game and tackle the challenges identified in the ICEC report. We are completely committed to playing our own part in delivering on these commitments.

“We have already set out a comprehensive EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Policy & Action plan to support these efforts, which has made significant progress in breaking down barriers across cricket in Kent. Whilst we still have a long way to go, we are proud of the work that has taken place over the last two years.

“We look forward to working with the ECB as we continue our efforts to ensure that more people from more diverse backgrounds than ever before are watching, playing and following cricket – both in Kent and across the country.”
