Kent suffer 69 run defeat to Sussex

The Kent Spitfires will hope for revenge when they play Sussex Sharks tomorrow in the second of their two one-day pre-season friendlies. Earlier today, the Spitfires suffered a 69 run defeat at Hove.

Batting first, the home side scored 282 for eight from their 50 overs with England’s Luke Wright making an impressive 88. Joe Gatting contributed 51 and Ed Joyce – formerly of Middlesex – made 47. Phil Edwards was the pick of the Kent attack; returning figures of four for 62. Spinner James Tredwell took three for 45.

In reply, Kent were dismissed for just 213. Opener Joe Denly (pictured) – who was eighth man out – made 85. Darren Stevens was the next best with 25 while Academy all-rounder Matt Coles scored 24.

Luke Wright made it a game to remember; returning figures of three for 39. Robin Martin-Jenkins took two for 34 and Mike Yardy two for 31.
