Klaassen included in Netherlands T20 World Cup squad

Kent left-armer Fred Klaassen has been named in the Netherlands’ squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which begins in Australia from 16 October.

The Netherlands booked their place at T20 cricket’s ‘big dance’ by defeating the United States in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe in July 2022.

Klaassen made his T20 debut for the Dutch in June 2018, & so far has 29 international T20 appearances for the Oranje, taking 32 wickets at an average of 23.34.

Netherlands will play three matches in the Group Stage of the World Cup. In Group A, the Dutch team will take on the United Arab Emirates, Namibia and Sri Lanka.

Head coach Ryan Cook said: “We have assembled a well balanced squad with an exciting blend of youth and experience for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“The experience playing in the Super League will stand the team in good stead and good confidence can be taken from these performances.

“We will look to continue the progression that was evident through the summer into the tournament and have some quality preparation planned prior to the event which will help the readiness for the group in both skills and cohesion.”

  • Sunday 16 October: Netherlands vs. UAE – 11:00 UK time
  • Tuesday 18 October: Netherlands vs. Namibia – 07:00 UK time
  • Thursday 20 October: Netherlands vs. Sri Lanka – 07:00 UK time
