Klaassen named in Netherlands ODI squad

Fred Klaassen has been named in the Netherlands’ squad for their upcoming Cricket World Cup Super League ODI series against Ireland.

The left-arm seamer is one of 15 players in the squad, with the ODIs taking place on 2, 4 & 7 June at Kampong in Utrecht.

This is the Netherlands’ first series in the ICC’s revamped ODI calendar, whereas Ireland have played two series, losing 3-0 to Afghanistan and 2-1 to England.

In beating England in one ODI, Ireland claimed what could be a very important 10-points as the top eight teams in the Super League automatically qualify for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

There are no ‘dead rubbers’ in the Super League, as all matches are worth 10 points.

Klaassen will be available for the first two ODIs, before coming home to be part of the Kent Spitfires’ preparation for the Vitality Blast, which starts on 9 June as Kent welcome Hampshire Hawks to The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

To date, he has played in 4 ODIs and 21 T20Is for the Dutch, taking a total of 30 wickets since his debut against Ireland in 2018.
