The latest chapter of the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ will be written at the Cloud County Ground as Kent Spitfires face Essex Eagles at Chelmsford in the Royal London Cup.

Travelling over the Dartford Crossing will be Ollie Robinson, whose record 206* against Worcestershire Rapids catapulted his tournament average to now be 139.00, with Alex Blake also averaging over 50.00 due to two half centuries. Both batters both have seven tournament sixes so far.

Joey Evison scored a career-best 109 against Glamorgan in Cardiff, & Ben Compton racked up 75 runs against the Rapids on matchday one.

With the ball, seamer Matt Quinn has five wickets so far for the Spitfires in the Royal London Cup.

Off-spinner Hamid Qadri has four wickets to his name, with India fast bowler Navdeep Saini on two, alongside Nathan Gilchrist, George Linde & Grant Stewart.

Opposition report

Essex Eagles are one place below Kent in Group B of the Royal London Cup, after two defeats and a no-result in three fixtures so far.

Right-hander Feroze Khushi’s 118 runs in one innings puts him atop of the Eagles’ batting charts, followed by Jamal Richards (72) & Tom Westley (70).

Richards, Aron Nijjar, Shane Snater & Aaron Beard all have three tournament wickets to date for the Eagles in 2022.

Team News

Harry Finch has been announced as returning to the Club for this season’s Royal London Cup.

Darren Stevens sustained a calf injury whilst batting in Cardiff.  Following an assessment & scan, he is expected to make a full recovery in the coming weeks.

Grant Stewart is managing a minor soft tissue injury & is expected to return to action very soon. George Linde is managing an a knee injury & is expected to be fit for South Africa’s domestic season.

Joe Denly is named in the squad of 13 after recovering from a minor back injury.
