Opposition Report

  • Captain: Lewis Hill
  • Overseas players: Peter Handscomb (Australia), Wiaan Mulder (South Africa)
  • 2022 finish: Quarter-final
  • 2022 leading runscorer: Wiaan Mulder (533)
  • 2022 leading wicket taker: Chris Wright, Beuran Hendricks (17 each)

Key player: Rishi Patel – Leicestershire’s top scorer in both red-ball and T20 cricket this summer, with four Championship hundreds and another in the Vitality Blast and his contribution is likely to be key. The 24-year-old former Essex batter has probably done enough already to land the county’s player-of-the-year award, but if he can produce that form in this competition as well it will be a formality.

Young Player to watch: Josh Hull – The Academy product, who is a 6ft 7ins left-arm seamer and who will turn 19 during August, has made an impact in both red-ball and T20 formats in his debut season, with 14 wickets in 10 appearances so far. The Metro Bank One-Day Cup is an opportunity to cement the good impression he has already made.

The Foxes had a disastrous Vitaly Blast campaign, swiftly followed by the departure of head coach Paul Nixon amid a negative response from supporters. A strong showing in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, in which they were competitive last season, could help bring a few malcontents back onside ahead of a September push for promotion in the Championship.

Team News

Interim Men’s Head Coach Simon Cook has named an unchanged 14-strong squad to face Leicestershire Foxes.

Jack Leaning will continue to skipper the side in Joe Denly’s absence due to a side injury, with Denly set to be in attendance with the squad at Beckenham. Nathan Gilchrist is included as he nears return from injury.

Overseas player James Bazley & loan signing Matt Parkinson both made their Kent debuts last time out in Yorkshire, with Overseas signing Ben Lister in theory becoming available for selection in next week’s home match against Middlesex, international schedule permitting. The Club remains in contact with Cricket New Zealand.

Harry Finch will continue to keep wicket – his one-handed catch to put Kent ahead on DLS against Yorkshire Vikings was named FanCraze Gamechanger last time out.
