Match Report: Middlesex Women vs. Kent Women

Wet weather put an end to any result in Kent Women’s away trip to Crouch End to face Middlesex in the Women’s London Championship.

After a scorching few days in the South East, rain was forecast across the region as the Horses travelled to North London CC, where they duly chose to field first upon winning the Toss, giving them a slightly upper hand technical if Duckworth-Lewis-Stern were to come into play during the second innings.

Kent handed three debuts to promising young talent – Tunbridge Wells CC’s middle-order batter Emily Barrett was joined by her club teammates, Emily (leg-spinner) & Anna (right-arm seamer) Roche.

The Roche sisters became the third set of twins to play for Kent Women according to available records, after Kent Women pioneers Joan & Barbara Blaker & Kate & Caroline Brown.

Skipper Megan Belt handed the new ball to Alice Grant & Olivia Barnes to open up the bowling from opposite ends, but it was Emily Roche, coming on at first change, who would prove to be most effective with her leg spin.

She accounted for the wickets of Middlesex opener Lucy Porter for 20 & skipper Natasha Miles for 13, but in the over that Miles fell to a catch from Chelsey Rowson, play was suspended with Middlesex 66/2.

After a short delay, the decision was made to end the match due to the weather.

Kent Women’s next Women’s London Championship match is on Friday 26 August at The County Ground, Beckenham.

Essex Women are the opponents with tickets £5 at the gate and entry free for all valid Kent Members & Six Pack Ticket Bundle Holders. This match will not count towards one day of the Six Pack Ticket Bundle.

The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence will once again host a full England Women’s One-Day International (WODI) match in 2022, with a Royal London WODI against India under the lights in Canterbury on Wednesday, 21 September.
