Men’s First Team

The Pharon Indoor League, playing weekends at Kent Cricket's Ames Levett Sports Centre has new champions. Street End claimed the title forthe first time, with their 12th victory in 14 matches.

In the last First Division game, Street End beat bottom of the table, Gravesend by three wickets. Chasing a total of 112-5, Street End's winning run came off the first ball of the 12th and final over.

For Street End, whose village ground is just two miles down the Nackington Road, it was the completion of a notable treble in the space of four months. In the summer they won both the Kent Village and Regional (East) Leagues. They now compete in the county finals at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence on February 9th.

Street End's life president is Robin Baker White, former Kent Cricket president and High Sheriff. The playing area on the family's estate boasts two sweet chestnuts inside the boundary. They are at least 700 years old; the same age as the chestnut at Hampton Court, which is in the Domesday Book.

Runners-up to Street End by two points, were Canterbury, the defending champions, who have held the trophy 10 times in the past 12 years.

The Pharon indoor season, at present at the halfway stage, continues until March, with the second half od Divisions 2 and 3 for the seniors (on Sundays) and the under 13s on Saturday mornings.
