Sam Billings collects Walter Lawrence Trophy for fastest century

Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billingspicked up the Walter Lawrence Trophy last night in a ceremony at Lord's.

At a celebration dinner in the famous Long Room, the 23-year-old Kent Cricket Academy graduate picked up the prize for the fastest century of the season.

The gloveman shared the honour with Middlesex and Australia batsman Dan Christian, both men achieving a ton in 46 balls.

He picked up the silverware sponsored by Veuve Clicquot and a £1,500 cheque from former England Test player and selector Geoff Miller OBE.

Billings' knock came against Somerset in the Royal London One-Day Cup group game at Taunton, where he blasted 135 runs off just 58 balls.

The Spitfire Player of the Year's innings on July 31 included twelve boundaries and four sixes.

He equalled the knock by Christian against Kent in the Natwest T20 Blast group game on June 6 at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

Surrey's Natalie Sciver won the Women's award for the highest score of 154, pipping Kent skipper Charlotte Edwards' 151.

Rob Gibson of Durham MCCU won the Universities award for the highest varsity score of 118 v Cardiff MCCU.
