Second XI win two T20s v Essex at Chelmsford

Athletic fielding and accurate bowling helped Kent's secondXI win both T20s against Essex at Chelmsford.

In the first match at the Essex County Ground, the hosts invited Kent to bat first.

Skipper Adam Ball’s 36 off 26 balls led the way with Calum Haggett (30) and Charlie Hartley (16) contributing at a run-a-ball in a modest total of 138 for nine.

In reply, Kent’s seamers kept it tight before captialising on poor running with some tidy fielding to run out five Essex batsmen.

Ball was the architect of four of them, showing his all-round credentials with some good throws before taking a wicket himself to seal a one-run win.

Kent won the toss and clinched the second match with ease, dismissing Essex for 79.

Ivan Thomas grabbed 4/26 in four overs with Hugh Bernard bowling another tidy spell conceding just 10 off his 24 balls.

The spin of Imran Qayyum (1/21) and Jasdev Bassan (1/19) slowed the scoring yet further in the middle overs.

Charlie Hartley took two wickets with the last two balls of his only over before Matt Hunn struck with his second ball to complete the demolition.

In reply, Adam Ball shepherded the strike in an unbeaten 38 before Sean Dickson (34 not out) smashed two fours and three sixes to seal a nine-wicket win.
