Sri Lanka claimed their first victory on English soil this summer as they beat Kent by 128 runs in Friday's one-day clash at Canterbury. The visitors, having been put into bat by their opponents, posted 301 for seven in their 50 overs.

Angelo Mathews top-scored with 51, while there were also healthy contributions from Lahiru Thirimanne (49) and Dinesh Chandimal (47 not out).

Kent, for whom Robbie Joseph finished with four wickets for 58 runs, could only manage 173 all out in reply as Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera and Ajantha Mendis claimed three wickets apiece.

The home side were in trouble early on on 59 for four, and lost their last six wickets for 46 runs, with the greatest resistance coming from Alex Blake (60).

The Sri Lankans next play Sussex at Hove on Sunday.
