Stevens: We have matchwinners

Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens paid tribute to the entire Spitfires attack after he took a career-best haul as oldest rivals Surrey were defeated by a record margin at The County Ground, Beckenham.

After the batsmen posted 384-8, the 42-year-old grabbed 6/25 as scoreboard pressure proved too much for the visitors after Matt Henry and Mitch Claydon each took a wicket in the powerplay before Imran Qayyum got the prized wickets of Jason Roy and Ben Foakes.

Qayyum and Calum Haggett stifled the scoring in the middle overs before the evergreen 42-year-old’s 37-ball masterclass including his 150th List A wicket.

Stevens said: “It’s always pleasing to pick up wickets and a career-best but even better to do it in such a good win.

“We weren’t too far away in the first two losses but we’ve learned from it and not put too much pressure on ourselves and we have matchwinners in our side.

“We’ve got a big game on Sunday and another tough game at Essex on Sunday and we’ll see where we go.”
