Kent Women win first friendly of the season
Kent Women played their first fixture of the season at the Premier League venue of Lordswood Cricket Club against Middlesex on Saturday.
Coached by Mark Dekker, Kent Women fielded a young side with Kent County Age Group girls well represented and a number of senior players missing.
Middlesex started strongly with a solid opening partnership and made their way to 145-1 at the break off 25 overs.
Kent then responded well with a better second half restricting Middlesex to 238-7 with Jennifer Jackson instrumental, taking a catch, a run out and a wicket. Hannah Jelfs and Megan Belt both contributed well with two wickets a piece.
After the innings break and Kent Women chasing 239 to win, Maxine Blythin and Kirsty Dymond opened the batting and put together a good opening partnership of 60.
Blythin went on to score an impressive 83 including another blossoming partnership with Chelsey Rowson, who herself scored 54 runs.
It was Jodie Hobson and Hannah Jelfs that scored the winning runs to get Kent over the line.
