Kent League Round-Up

Sandwich Town Cricket Club, who play in the Premier Division of the Kent League, narrowly missed out in their bid for T20 national glory when they were beaten by just seven runs in the Area final of the competition on Sunday, losing to Cranleigh Cricket Club (Surrey), who hosted the finals day.

Restricting Cranleigh to 138/7 from their 20 overs, Sandwich must have felt confident of success but they disappointingly fell just short of victory reaching 131 for 7, chasing the winning target. Liam Evans took 4 for 25 for Sandwich and Cameron Fletcher hit 60 for them in their unsuccessful run chase.

Fletcher had been 51 not out in the Sandwich semi-final score of 191/4 as they beat East Grinstead 178 all out in 19.4 overs by 13 runs, skipper Matthew Van Poppel taking 5 for 29. Cranleigh had beaten Hook and Newham by eight wickets in their semi-final.

The whole of the Kent League cricket programme, including the five Premier Division matches were completely washed out on Saturday because of the heavy rain that flooded most of the grounds before starts could even be made.

Bexley lead the Premier Division by one point from Beckenham whilst HSBC Kent and Blackheath, last season’s champions, currently occupy the relegation places.
