Ashford School Girls are National Runners Up

Ashford School in Kent have recently finished as National Runners Up in the ECB U13 Girls’ School’s Indoor Cricket Competition.

Their U13 ‘Indoor Eights’ cricket team attended the National Finals on the 23rd May, held in the MCC Indoor Cricket Centre at Lords Cricket Ground in London.

The tournament was held in a round robin format, with the top five schools in the country facing each other. Ashford played Ipswich School, Sedbergh School, St. Helen and Katharine School and The Island Free School across the course of the day.

Ashford faced St. Helen and St. Katherines in the first round, only falling 1 run short of a first win. The players did not let the loss phase them against The Island Free School however, finishing on a well-deserved 105 runs and winning the game.

With a break in play, the girls then had a tour of Lords Cricket Ground, visiting the players home dressing room and getting a great view from the balcony, the famous long room and the media centre.

The next game against Sedbergh School saw a continuation of the winning momentum, with the players finishing on 126 runs, the highest score of the day! In the final game of the day playing Ipswich School, the team showcased some excellent fielding, restricting them to just 91 runs and pulling off an overwhelming 35 run win.

With some excellent and thrilling cricket played, the Ashford players only just finished as runners-up in the ‘U13 Indoor Eights’ National Finals (with over 900 schools entering the competition overall). Congratulations to the girls on this fantastic achievement.
