Girls’ Area Cricket Programme expands in 2023/24

Saturday 20th January 2024

A successful first year of the Girls Area Cricket Programme, run by Kent Cricket, has enabled growth into another age group in 2023/24. The three areas, Metropolitan, West and East, will remain the same but there will be Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 competitions played this summer.

This year’s programme will enable 220 girls, between the ages of 9 and 15, to have access to eight indoor training sessions and eight days of matches in the summer.

Our coaching team has grown in size and some new venues have been found to further improve the programme. A huge thank you to Somerhill School, St Olave’s Grammar School, Kent College (Canterbury) and The Judd School for hosting the programme’s winter sessions.

In November and December the girls focused on improving their batting, bowling and fielding techniques. The focus has now shifted to developing game plans via match scenarios in the nets, whilst maintaining technical improvement. The attendance and work ethic of the girls has been superb so far which has made it very enjoyable and rewarding for the coaches.

We are busy planning the summer programme with cricket festivals over the May half-term and throughout the first three weeks of the summer holidays. The summer match programme will see the girls playing a mixture of 100 ball, T20 and 30 over matches. We are looking forward to seeing all the benefits of the hard work from the winter programme when we start outside in April.

The West Area have been boosted by the support of Cripps LLP partnering with Kent Cricket to help deliver their 2023/24 programme. Our Met & East Areas are looking for a partner company. There is also an opportunity for a company to be our main Kent Cricket Girls’ Talent Pathway partner. If you would like more information about these opportunities please get in touch with Director of Partnerships, Andy Griffiths.
