Kent Female Umpiring Hits Drive Time!

Last month, Kent’s Mel Juniper along with Essex colleague, Tracey Murphy, took to the field in Whitstable on the 1st July in the first ever Kent Cricket League game to be umpired by two female officials.

After we reported on this fantastic milestone for both the game and the world of female umpiring, BBC Radio Kent reached out to the Kent Association of Cricket Officials (ACO) to ask if Mel would be happy to be interviewed on air during Pat Marsh’s afternoon show.

Mel kindly agreed to take part and this resulted in some brilliant and much needed publicity for cricket officiating!

The BBC have kindly given us permission to include the interview which you can listen to below and if it piques your interest and you’d like to find out more about umpiring or scoring, drop the Kent ACO an email.
