Kent welcome Essex to The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in the LV= Insurance County Championship from Monday, 5 September – the first of three Championship matches to start at 10:30 this month.

Kent still need positive results in the final matches of this year’s Championship to secure their Division One status, & will look to their top run-scorer in Ben Compton, who has 1,119 to his name so far in the competition.

Returners Daniel Bell-Drummond (829) & Jordan Cox (818) will also be hoping to their run tallies so far, & with the ball, Matt Milnes’ 21 wickets are still the most for Kent to-date.

Nathan Gilchrist has 19 wickets, & Matt Quinn has 15.


Last Time Out

Lancashire completed an extraordinary comeback 20 minutes after Tea on the final day at Emirates Old Trafford as Kent were bowled out for 127 to hand the hosts victory.

Opposition Report

Essex sit in fourth position of Division One after four victories in ten matches.

Sir Alastair Cook has 735 runs at an average of 45.93 this campaign – an average slightly higher than the 41.87 of fellow opener Nick Browne, who has 670 runs to his name.

Tom Westley has also scored 485 runs so far this season.

In terms of pacers, Essex will hope for more wickets from Sam Cook (26) & Shane Snater (21), who both sit behind South African off-spinner Simon Harmer (41) in Essex’s wicket-taking charts this season.

Team News

Men’s Head Coach Matt Walker has named a 13-strong squad for the visit of Essex, led by Sam Billings.

Joey Evison is included in Kent’s squad after the all-rounder’s services were secured for this match on top of his Royal London Cup loan deal with the Club.

George Linde, Marcus O’Riordan & Tawanda Muyeye all remain sidelined through injury.
